On May 29, 2025, with the occasion of the Feast of Ascension, a solemn ceremony was held at the Communal Cemetery in Mons, Belgium, commemorating the Romanian soldiers who lost their lives during the First World War and are buried there.

The event was organized by the Romanian Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium and brought together military and diplomatic representatives. Attending the ceremony was Her Eminence Andreea Păstârnac, Romania’s Ambassador to Belgium, along with Commander Cosmin Gabriel Vlad, representative of the Romanian Defence Staff at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), and Colonel Vasile Claudiu Drăgan, Romania’s Defence Attaché to Belgium, based in Paris. Members of the Defence Staff Representation to SHAPE and the diplomatic corps were also present.

A meaningful moment in the context of the ceremony was the religious service conducted by Fr. Gabriel Pop, delegate of the Representation of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the European Institutions. Floral wreaths were laid at the graves of the fallen soldiers as a tribute to their sacrifice and courage.
