Meeting between CROCEU and COMECE delegations
A delegation of the Committee of Representatives of the Orthodox Churches to the European Union (CROCEU) met on September 18, 2018 the new President of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Union (COMECE), Mgr. Jean-Claude Hollerich S.J., Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Luxembourg. The CROCEU delegation was composed of H. E. Bishop Porphyrios of Neapolis, from the Representation of the Church of Cyprus to the European Union, H.E. Metropolitan Athanasios of Achaia, from the Representation of the Church of Greece to the European Union, and Rev. Sorin Selaru, from the Representation of the Romanian Orthodox Church to the European Institutions, while the COMECE delegation included Fr. Olivier Poquillon op, General Secretary, and Mr. Alessandro Calcagno, Assistant General Secretary. During the meeting, the representatives discussed important subjects on the European agenda, emphasizing the major challenges in our society, both in terms of EU foreign policy and in the perspective of next year’s European elections and Brexit. Regarding the specific contribution of Churches to European integration, the need was stressed to strengthen and deepen the dialogue with the European Institutions on the basis of art. 17 of the TFEU.
